Demonetized cash in crores intercepted but not seized

JAMMU, Nov 21: Demonetized cash running into crores reportedly belonging to a BJP Minister was intercepted in a vehicle in the City but the case was mysteriously hushed up while police today handed over Rs 2.80 lakh worth old currency and two women to Income Tax Department for investigations.
Reports said that police intercepted a vehicle, which was reportedly carrying demonetized cash running into crores. Subsequent investigations by police revealed that the cash belonged to a BJP Minister and the vehicle and cash were not seized.
The cash was reportedly being carried in a vehicle escorted by the security personnel.
Police, however, didn’t confirm the report.
Meanwhile, Gangyal police today handed over two women and Rs 2.80 lakh worth demonetized currency notes to Income Tax Department after the cash was seized last night.
Police said a case under Section 155/109 was registered at Gangyal police station after two women were detained with Rs 2.8 lakh worth old currency notes, which, they claimed, they had collected as fee from nursing students.
However, police today called the Income Tax Department and handed over the women and cash to them for investigations.
