JAMMU, Dec 17: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh said that demonetization has dealt a great setback to terrorists and anti national elements pumping fake currency to create disturbances and violence in Valley.
Talking to reporters here today at the sidelines of a party function, he said the demonetization has given a blow to terrorism and that is the reason that terrorists in sheer desperation loot banks now and decamp with money. “They not only loot the banks but also arms and ammunition”, he added.
He said the Government is taking all possible measures to deal with the situation.
He was responding to a question of media persons , who asked about the impact of Union Government’s move to demonetise old high-value currency notes on unrest in Kashmir. Singh said the exercise has “badly-hit” terrorism and ‘hawala’ transactions, which is believed to support the militancy.
“That is why the terrorists are engineering cases of looting of money from the banks because they are facing dearth of money,” he said, adding that the Government was making “full security” arrangement to ensure such incidents do not recur.
On recent visit of BJP leader and former Union Minister, Yashwant Sinha led delegation to Valley, the Deputy CM said “it is a good development. Sinha came and met the people and whosoever will take an initiative for restoration of peace it is good as it is in the national interest”.
Dr Singh said that Sinha led delegation made the people of the Valley to understand that the prevailing situation will lead them to no where and it is not going to help them as peace was imperative for development and welfare of the people.
The Deputy CM also asked the Hurriyat leaders and other separatists to think “positively” so that normalcy returns and added that shutdown by separatists is “causing loss to everyone,”.
He said the Government action on the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani’s brother will proceed “as per the outcome” of the probe into his death as an FIR has been registered in this connection.
Singh said an FIR has been lodged and “whatever be the outcome of the probe, Government will act accordingly”.
“There is a law of the land applicable to it. Whatever be the outcome of the investigation, action would be taken as per that,” Singh added.
