“Democracy flourishing in Jammu and Kashmir”

The achievements of the Government in Kashmir on the security scenario cannot be underestimated irrespective of the criticism necessarily to be made either due to prejudiced outlook or that criticism must be made as it is to made at all costs. Although targeted killings by the militants continue with lightening speed sporadically after a relative calm settles for a month or two of virtual no incident, yet a holistic view taken reveals spectacular changes in the entire scenario. Lieutenant Governor while addressing people on the eve of 76th Independence Day has listed series of achievements and most of them rightly so about certain fundamental changes having taken place to usher in an era of peace, progress, prosperity and promoting and paving the way for democracy to flourish and replace decades old despondency , gloom and uncertainty sowed by Pakistan sponsored proxy war of terrorism.
When we recall the operation of the vicious cycle of very frequent Hartals, closure of shops, schools and institutions coupled with stone pelting and other violent acts – all that had become a part and parcel of the lives of the people and the separatist leaders taking sadistic pleasure over people’s plight , we really feel that horrible scenario all consigned to pages of the history with a hope of never ever again witnessing those moments. Lieutenant Governor claiming and rightly so that Bazars remain open till late night , transport moving quite normally till late evening hours and people breathing in free air and no fear must all be preserved and strengthened. On the employment front, where the easy criticism has become a routine, the claim of having provided 30000 Government jobs during the last three years to the youth in an open, transparent method , self employment to 5.2 lakh young persons etc is no mean claim. When complete peace and tranquillity prevails , more opportunities sprout .
On the contrary, earlier the poor students and the marginal shopkeepers, the Rehdiwalas, the daily basis earners etc were worst sufferers and virtually sitting idle for four to five months on an average in a year due to frequent Bandhs and Hartals. In the present hard times, People cannot afford the luxuries of closures and Hartals and they are least bothered what this Article or that Article meant to them unless their daily routine got affected. It is no mean achievement that in celebrating the 76th Independence Day, Jammu and Kashmir can claim to be among top states/UTs in the country. Rail is connecting the UT especially Kashmir with rest of the country , project of world class importance like Chenab Railway Bridge are going to write new chapters of development for the UT bringing and opening new vistas and opportunities for the people to progress and prosper. Where , therefore, is the place for Hartals, closures , stone pelting and violent acts ?
