TIRUCHIRAPALLI, Dec 5: Hundreds of traders and members of the Confederation of Traders of Tamil nadu (Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangankalin Peramippu) led by State Secretary Ve.Govindarajulu were taken into custody by the police when they attempted to resort to rail roko at railway junction here today, protesting Union Government’s move to allow 51 per cent FDI retail.
The agitators, carrying black flags and placards, came to the railway junction in a procession when police intercepted and took them into custody.
Speaking to the media, Mr Govindarajulu said this agitation was part of their two-day state wide agitation to urge the Union Government to give up its move to allow the 51 per cent FDI in retail trade as it would affect the interests of about 20 crore retail traders of the country. (UNI)
