Demands of OBCs under consideration: SAB

JAMMU, Sept 25: Government has agreed to impart ITI training to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates desirous of undergoing technical training after applying to the State Advisory Board (SAB).
This was stated by Kuldeep Raj Verma, Vice Chairman, State Advisory Board (SAB) for the welfare and development Other Backward Classes (OBCs), during a press conference here this afternoon.
He said that the Government would grant loans through Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) to about 100 needy candidates after they apply to the board.
Verma added that two hostels at Jammu and Srinagar on rent basis with a capacity of 50 children would be started during the current financial year.
“About 15 kanal of land for construction of OBCs hostel and OBCs Bhawan at Kaing, tehsil Jammu, demarcated for allotment and documents prepared by SAB and Deputy Commissioner Jammu have been submitted”, Verma disclosed.
The Chairman (Chief Minister) has desired for allotment of land for construction of hostel near EDI Pampore in the review meeting, he said, adding, that raising income ceiling from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4.50 lakh as eligible for obtaining OSC/OBC certificate has also been mooted.
He said that instructions to Director, Social Welfare Jammu/ Srinagar have been issued for sanctioning pre-matric and post-matric scholarships on enhanced rates from Rs 25,200 to Rs 44,500 per annum and Rs 1 lakh per annum respectively.
Verma added that the main demand for enhancement of reservation from 2 per cent to 27 per cent as demanded by the board is under active consideration of the Government in the Social Welfare Department and he hoped that the Chief Minister will agree to the demand.
