RAMBAN, July  28:  An Agriculture Mela was organised by Territorial Army Unit, under Delta Force, at District Agriculture complex here today.
As  majority of the rural population is dependent on farming, the Army took the initiative to reach out to the rural community in the district.    The inauguration was attended by Commander of Chanderkot based Rashtriya Rifles Sector alongwith, Neelam Langeh, MLA Ramban, Deputy Commissioner Farooq Ahmed Shah Bhukhari, Randeep Kumar, SSP Ramban;  RK Sandhu- Additional District Development Commissioner  Ramban; Sunil Kaul- Chief Agriculture Officer Ramban and other officials of the area.
The Commander Rashtriya Rifles Sector complemented both  the farming community and the District Agriculture Department, for converging together for the common cause of improvement in agricultural and horticulture practices in the district, so that the entire community benefits due to enhanced quality and sustainable agricultural produce.
The event provided the much needed impetus to the local farming communities who were able to showcase their agricultural products, high yielding planting stock and nursery technologies. It also allowed the farmers to share their experiences, concerns and views on contemporary issues of agriculture, which struck a chord amongst the local farming community. SBI and NABARD representatives educated the farmers on various aspects and types of farm loan schemes available with the Banks.
Equipment used in farming sector were demonstrated by private companies which displayed their products and sale of seeds/saplings, display and sale of agro-chemicals, bio-fertilizers. The display of irrigation technology for water saving along with milking machine and sheep wool shearing machines  caught the attention of the farmers.
The main highlight of the Mela was Hydroponics wherein soilless cultivation of plants generated mass interest considering limited land available for cultivation in the area.  There was also a display of farm produce under various categories of fruits and vegetables and prizes were distributed to the winners to motivate the farming community.
