JAMMU, Feb 18: Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, based at Nachlana under Delta Force, organized a basic course on Mountaineering and Camp Setting at National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) in Dhirang, Arunachal Pradesh.
Eight youth of Ramban district were selected to undergo the training at NIMAS. Prior to moving to the training institute, these youth had undergone a rigorous pre-course training at Chanderkot. They were given adequate physical conditioning, tutorial and introductory classes and were psychologically motivated to undergo this adventure course. The youth attending the course are part of a Self Help Group by the name “Chenab Club Self Help Group” which looks forward to promote tourism and mountaineering related activities in Ramban District.
The course will thus enable and contribute towards their economic self sustenance. The course at NIMAS commenced from 15 January 2016 to 13 February 2016 where the participants had undergone rigorous training in River Crossing, Camp Setting, Trekking, Mountaineering and other allied activities. The assistance provided by the Army was part of initiatives taken by Delta Force under Sadbhavana initiative to help these youth to gain confidence and an endeavor to provide opportunity for employment.
General Officer Commanding Delta Force interacted with these trainees on their arrival at Dharmund after culmination of the training and congratulated them on successful completion of the course.
The locals and civil dignitaries expressed their sincere gratitude towards the Indian Army in providing such an opportunity to the youth of the region.
