NEW DELHI, Nov 7: In a Diwali gift, Delhi government today hiked the monthly honorarium of over 22,000 Anganwadi employees in the city by up to Rs 1,000.
Now each of the Anganwadi workers will get a monthly honorarium of Rs 5,000 each instead of existing Rs 4,000 while honorarium of Anganwadi helpers has been hiked to Rs 2,500 from Rs 2,000.
The decision, which was taken at a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, will benefit 11,150 Anganwadi workers and 11,150 Anganwadi helpers.
The Cabinet has directed the Social Welfare department to ensure payment of hiked honorarium before Diwali as a festival gift from the city government.
The share of the Union Government in salary of Anganwadi workers is Rs 2,700 while for Anganwadi helpers the share is Rs 1,350.
“The city government has now decided to raise its share in monthly honorarium for Anganwadi workers from Rs 1,300 to Rs 2,300 and for Anganwadi helpers to Rs 1150 from Rs 650,” Dikshit said.
Government will have to incur an additional financial burden of Rs 6.20 crore in the current fiscal.
The Cabinet has also approved a proposal for relaying of the road between Mangolpuri to Auchandi Border and widening another road from Ghevra More to Singhu Border.
To relay the road between Mangolpuri to Auchandi Border, the Cabinet has sanctioned Rs 114 crore while Rs 124 crore has been granted for widening the road between Ghevra More to Singhu border.
In another decision, the Cabinet has approved the guidelines of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for construction of flyovers, grade separators and underpasses in the city. (PTI)
