JAMMU, Jan 5: A delegation of Rashtriya Sikh Sangat (RSS), led by its President Dr. Jaswant Singh, called on Governor N.N Vohra here at the Raj Bhavan.
The delegation represented its demands relating to the extension of National Commission of Minorities jurisdiction to J&K; expeditious distribution of relief under P.M’s package for displaced persons of 1947, 1965 and 1971 and Chhamb sector; representations of Sikhs on political posts; appointment of a Sikh Judge and grant of relief for a Jammu based Sikh family whose two members died last year in the Nepal Earthquake. They also demanded facilities for Jammu migrants and relief for Sikh victims of 1984 and 1989 riots.
The Governor observed that their demands would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
A delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Tourist Trade People’s Federation (JKTTPF), led by its Chairman, Mahesh Chander Padha also called on Governor.
The delegation apprised the Governor about various voluntary activities being carried out by the JKTTPF for the facilitation of the pilgrims to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and Shri Amarnathji Shrine. It also made some suggestions for improving the facilities required to be provided to Yatris at the Base Camps of Bhagwati Nagar and Katra, particularly the need to provide a Locker at Bhagwati Nagar.
The Governor urged the JKTTPF to get involved, inter alia, in publicizing the DO’s and DONT’s which are required to be observed by pilgrims who undertake the Shri Amarnathji Yatra.
Dr. Jeetendra Udhampuri, Padmashree and a renowned writer also called on Governor.
The Governor congratulated Dr. Udhampuri for receiving National Award for Literature from President of India, in October 2015, for his contribution in the field of literature.
The Governor also discussed with Dr. Udhampuri certain issues relating to the promotion of selected works in Dogri language.
