JAMMU, June 20: A delegation led by social and political activist, Dilip Pandita, met the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, Dr Arvind Karwani on Thursday to highlight the pressing issues faced by the migrants living in Jagti Camp.
During the meeting, the delegation submitted a detailed representation listing several urgent concerns affecting daily life in the camp.
The key issues included inefficiency in the Relief Department, delay in shop allotments, irregular drinking water supply, poor road connectivity, and the absence of solar street lighting.
The delegation demanded automation of the e-filing and receipt systems to improve transparency and governance.
They also called for a survey to ensure a reliable drinking water supply, steps to prevent waterborne diseases, and proper receipts for transactions.
On the matter of shop allotments, the delegation urged the authorities to update the CDR list from 2011 and take action against unauthorized constructions, which they said had led to major financial losses.
Further, the delegation demanded that bill payments be made only after approval from civil society or resident committees to ensure work completion.
Other concerns included the installation of solar lights, improving road connectivity from Kandoli to Jagti to reduce accidents, and regular visits by officers to monitor case disposals.
Dr Karwani patiently heard the delegation and assured them that genuine issues would be addressed, with some concerns already being forwarded to the relevant departments. The delegation appreciated his willingness to take prompt action on their demands.
