JAMMU, Nov 24: A delegation of refugees led by former MP Madan Lal Sharma met Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan here today.
The delegation demanded proper settlement of refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971, provisioning infra/facilities for border and LoC inhabitants and due relief to victims of rains, floods and landslides in Jammu region.
The delegation comprised of Manjeet Singh, Ex-Minister, Anil Chowdhary, Jarnail Singh, Balwant Singh Nagra, Choudhary Sukhdev Singh, Tirth Singh, Shoba Singh, Uttam Singh, Choudhary Mohan Singh and Badri Nath Sharma.
After meeting the Governor, Madan Lal Sharma in a press statement said that the recently announced package by PM is inadequate and does not fulfill the aspirations of the people of Jammu region, adding that the delegation requested Governor to take up genuine demands with Prime Minister and Chief Minister for redressal.
He stated that they have submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding enhancement in refugees settlement package by Prime Minister from Rs 5 lakh to minimum of Rs 25 lakh as recommended by the previous Government and the then Parliamentary Committee.
He demanded reservation for the children of DPs and special recruitment drive for the unemployed youth, compensation and support to the victims of rains, flood and landslides in Jammu region, full waiver of KCC loans, 5 Marlas land for border residents, enhancement in ex-gratia relief to Rs 25 lakh in case of death, Rs 20 lakh in case of grievous injury or limb loss, Rs 10 lakh for the normal injury and Government job to the kin, who died in such incidents.
He also demanded compensation to those whose land falls inside the fencing or is 2-3 kms from the border and they are unable to cultivate it due to risks of mines, firing and shelling. The delegation requested for provisioning/enhancing the same. He also requested for the provision for increasing the height of bandhs to disrupt the visibility of farmers cultivating their lands. He also demanded provision of concrete bunkers on both international border and LoC for the civilians so that they can hide themselves in case of any emergency.
“The border residents should be given RBA status. BADP funds should be used as per guideline and should be increased”, he demanded.
