JAMMU, Jan 29: A delegation of the Political Migrant Front led by Sheikh Mohi-ud-Din Shabnam, Chairman, met N.N. Vohra, Governor, here at Raj Bhavan today.
The delegation apprised the Governor about the plight of the Political migrants living in the camps and different hotels in Jammu and Kashmir. They requested allotment of land for their rehabilitation, provision of soft loans by banks for starting their own remunerative ventures, enhancement in the amount of the relief grant, registration of migrants with the Relief Commissioner, representation in the “Apex Committee” constituted by the State Government for the Migrants and expediting the process of appointments in Government jobs under the Prime Minister’s Package for Migrants.
They also highlighted the need of setting up Anganwadi Centres for the Camp and Non Camp migrants and Medical insurance cover for the migrant population. Members of the delegation also requested for construction of a Library-cum-Memorial Hall at the cremation site of the Sikhs who were martyred at Chatti Singh Pora in Anantnag district.
The Governor assured that he would take up their demands with the Chief Minister.
The delegation comprised Choudhary Qamerdeen, Chief Patron, Nisar Ahmad Nasar,Vice-Chairperson, Sardar Aya Singh, Vice-Chairperson, Sardar Nanak Singh Bedi, Provincial President, Jammu Province, Pervez Hilal, Provincial President, Kashmir Province, and Bal Krishan, Secretary.
Kiran Kumar Sharma, Youth Social Worker and Red Cross Volunteer, Indian Red Cross Society also called on Mr. Vohra.
Mr Kumar has been conferred “National Youth Award 2011-2012” by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and is also the recipient of “Young Achiever Award” of The Hindustan Times Group for his exemplary work in the field of Social work.
He informed the Governor about certain youth related issues and his views about strengthening the role of Indian Red Cross Society in Colleges and Universities.
The Governor congratulated Mr. Kumar for receiving varied awards and appreciated his zeal and enthusiasm for promoting the welfare of the society.
