Defenders of Siachen

Siachen, the glacial top of the Himalayas is the world highest altitude battle ground where Indian defense forces are maintaining round the clock vigil lest there is intrusion from the enemy. In 1984, Indian army pre-empted Pakistan’s design of capturing Siachen glacier area and established a crucial military outs post that overlooks the territories of China and Pakistan. The heroic adventure of capturing Siachen is an unforgettable story of bravery, determination and deduction written in letters of gold. At 22,000 feet high altitude, the Indian Air Force Units have been operating in adverse climatic and ground conditions to bring supplies to the troops who are guarding that highest peak on the Himalayan Mountain. The cost of maintaining the strategic post at Siachen is high but the nation is determined to defend its borders and deny the enemy any chance of making an attack by stealth.
Chetak Helicopter Unit deployed for crucial service at the Siachen will be replacing some of its celebrated helicopters by more effective machines which can carry larger number of personnel and load. This is to be done with the view of improving and upgrading defense at this high mountain post to deter the enemy from making any ill advised adventure. We know that Pakistan and China are in unholy alliance and they are capable of creating a mischief. Our alert forces will not allow that to happen. Modernization of defense establishment is welcome.
