Sir,
In the interim budget presented by the Finance Minister Piyush Goel, provision of Rs 3,18,931 crore has been made for country’s defence.
This allocation has been hailed as the Biggest – ever defence budget. Still this allocation is very far behind our main adversary Chinese Army which spends around $224 billions annually. Despite this allocation, Indian army requires more money to meet its challenges posed by Pakistan and Army. The Indian Army has time and again pleaded that a big pie of the budget goes to salaries and pensions of the army personnel.
This leaves a little sum for procuring ammunition and new equipment.
There is urgent need to allocate more funds to the forces for modernisation. Unless we do that, China will continue to be a big challenges for us.
