Tariq Hameed Karra, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, welcomed Rajawat back into the party fold after she stepped down as the party spokesperson on January 18, 2023. Karra praised her decision, emphasizing her role in combating the BJP’s “communal and divisive” politics.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajawat said she had returned to the Indian National Congress, describing it as a party that upholds India’s democratic ideals and addresses the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “This decision is neither abrupt nor opportunistic-it is the culmination of introspection, my unwavering commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and my belief in Congress as the sole platform capable of addressing the pressing challenges we face,” she said.
Rajawat shared that, over the past two years, she had stepped away from active politics but remained engaged with the ground realities of Jammu and Kashmir through legal and social initiatives. “This period of reflection has only reinforced my conviction that J&K requires a resolute political force that genuinely represents its people-not as a façade for power but as a vehicle of change,” she added.
