Sir,
Kindly refer to the news item’ DyCM inaugurates book exhibition'(DE,March 27,2015).
Books are a great blessing.A well written book is a source of eternal joy and serve as a source of comfort and joy for the reader till the last breath of his life.Books have immortalised the names of writers such as William Shakespeare, Leo Tolstoy, Rabinder Nath Tagore and many others.
People remember them for their works and enjoy reading them for gaining authentic knowledge and wisdom where as the names of many kings and emperors have faded into oblivion and are no more rememebered. But it is sad and painful that this fruitful hobby is losing its charm for the young generation.
It is a common sight to see youngsters glued to the mobile phones, desktops, laptops, etc.and spending a lot of time in playing games and browsing social networking sites. But they spend very little time in reading books other than their course books.
The Government and the social organizations ought to take cognizance of the disturbing trend of declining interest of the youth towards books and take measures such as organising book exhibitions, opening more libraries at Block,Tehsil and District level in order to cultivate the useful habit of reading for pleasure in the people.
The schools ought to encourage this hobby by making it compulsory for the students to read books from the library and speak about the main ideas of the contents in the Morning Assembly.Parents too ought to realise that a good book is always worth its price. They should themselves be voracious readers to serve as example for their children and motivate them for reading books.A book is an important, authentic, reliable and cheap source of knowledge and wisdom and we must develop and promote the culture of gifting books to our friends and relatives on special occassions such as birthdays, marriage anniversaries etc.
Yours etc…..
