Declare holiday on June 2 in connection with Kheer Bhawani Mela: KPs

JAMMU, May 27: Kashmiri Pandits have demanded that the holiday in connection of annual Mela Kheer Bhawani be declared on June 2 instead of June 1 as the annual mela falls on Jesht Ashtami which is on June 2 and not on June 1 as shown in Government order.
All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC )  in an appeal to Government urged it to declare 2nd June 2017 as holiday instead of 1st June. President of the organization  advocate Ravinder Raina termed declaring holiday on 1st June as a conspiracy  of the administration  and a deliberate act to create a confusion in celebrating  the religious function.
He further said that it is surprising where from the administration has carved out the date of 1st June, when the community’s all religious leaders have mentioned in their Community Calendar 2nd June as Mela Kheer Bhawani as per Vikrami Samvat  2074 coincides with 2nd June 2017. Raina appealed the Government to issue corrigendum  in this regard at the earliest  by declaring 2nd June as State holiday so that the community will celebrate the festival at “Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple, Tulamulla Srinagar ” and Kheer Bhawani Temple at Bhawani Nagar, Janipur, Jammu.
Meanwhile Brahman Maha Mandal, J&K has also expressed its surprise over the declaration of holiday on Mela Kheerbhawani on June 1 as per GAD Order Number 1345-GAD of 2016 dated 9-12-2016when the Ashtami falls on June 2. It said as per Vijeshwar Panchang 2017-18 the celebration of Mela Kheerbhawani falls on Jeshta Shukla Paksha Ashtami Vikram2074 i.e on June 2, 2017 (Friday) of Christian Calendar. This receives further confirmation and support from the socio-religious organizations such as Satisar and Mangleshwar Bhairav Asthapan, it added.
The statement issued by the organization said that declaration of holiday in Kashmir province on June 1, 2017 by the State Government is beyond comprehension. It demanded that necessary and appropriate corrections and corrigendum be issued to the order. Further it demanded as the majority of KPs after mass exodus are putting up  at Jammu and they celebrate the mela Kheerbahawani with same zeal and devotion hence the State Government should take cognizance of the same and extend holiday on the eve of Mela Kheerbhawani to Jammu province also.
