‘Declare Azad as CM candidate for coming Assembly polls’

JAMMU, June 8: Members from Block Congress Committee (BCC) Marh led by former MLA Balwan Singh, former MP Janak Raj Gupta and senior Congress leader and MLC B R Kundal  today urged upon the AICC president Sonia Gandhi to declare Ghulam Nabi Azad as the Chief Ministerial candidate in J&K State for the coming Assembly elections.
In a large meeting of the Congress workers of Marh block and members of BCC Marh held today under the leadership of  PCC general secretary Balwan Singh, the Congress members unanimously passed resolution with the demand that former Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad be declared as Chief Ministerial  candidate for the coming Assembly elections in the State in October-November.
The speakers and BCC members were of the view that Azad’s performance as Chief Minister of  J&K as well as the Union Health Minister in today’s changed circumstances makes him the best choice  as the Chief Ministerial candidate. Moreover, he is acceptable in all the three regions of the State.
In yet another resolution adopted and passed during the convention, the party workers emphasized that before deciding on issuing mandate for the coming Assembly elections the party should conduct a survey and grant tickets to only those who are capable of winning the elections, their performance and public acceptance. The other resolution included final settlement of refugees of 1947, 65 and 71 besides those from West Pakistan, re-identification of BPL families  and bifurcation of ration cards, widening of main circular road Jammu and Gajansoo, Ghou- Jammu, Jhiri Road and Tawi Island road,  Degree College at Marh and raising sports infrastructure in Marh block.
Balwan Singh also stressed for  launching special recruitment drive  for the youth of the area and specially those residing along IB and LoC. The workers reposed their faith in the leadership of Balwan Singh in the meeting. Prominent among others present in the meeting included Vinod Sharma ( PCC gen secy), Lala Dev Dass, Ashwani Sharma block president,  Saudagar Singh Saini, Jagdish Raj Bhagat Sarpanch, Gulzar Singh and Charanjit Singh.
Meanwhile, Congress workers in a meeting held at Kachi Chawni here under the leadership of  ex-MP Janak Raj Gupta, urged upon the AICC president Sonia Gandhi to declare Mr Azad as CM candidate in the coming elections. It was also demanded that Congress should contest poll at its own. B R Kundal (MLC), senior leader and former Minister Gurbachan Kumari  Rana, S S Sudhir, K L Gupta, Chuni Lal Bhat, Tariq Ahmed, Sunil Kumar and  Kirtan Singh also spoke on the occasion.
