JAMMU, Jan 18: District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, who is also the Chairman of District Level Review Committee of SSA & RMSA today, convened a meeting of all the officers of Education Department, PWD (R&B), PHE, Health and Rural Development Departments of district Jammu, to review the implementation of both the programmes viz a viz Annual Action Plan 2013-14 with special thrust on construction of infrastructure in the schools under SSA, RMSA, District Plan, State Plan, School Sanitation Programme including drinking water supply to schools & providing toilet facilities, hand wash programme and regular students health check up programme.
It was reported that under RMSA, 46 Middle Schools have been upgraded to High Schools upto last year (2012-13) and during 2013-14, 56 such schools are also proposed for up-gradation. Besides, 21 High Schools are proposed to be upgraded to level of Higher Secondary Schools during the current financial year.
For providing infrastructural support to the newly upgraded schools, 46 upgraded high schools have been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs. 19.10 crore for construction of new school buildings. Out of which 12 buildings stand completed, 29 in progress and 05 school buildings are yet to be taken up for construction.
While reviewing the progress of the school buildings, DDC directed the respective Executive Engineers of PWD (R&B) and Chief Education Officer to get the stalled process of land dispute resolved within week’s time so that construction of remaining 05 schools is started.
It was also enjoined upon CEO/ZEOs/Head Masters to implement the other interventions of RMSA viz minor repairs, annual grant, IEDSS (Rams with railing), incentives to SC/ST, 9th reading school girls, enrolment drive, study tours, etc with great transparency and involvement of Panchayats.
DDC also reviewed the progress achieved with regard to other interventions of the programme, and it was told in the meeting that out of 1615 number of children identified under TALAASH SURVEY, 426 have been enrolled in different schools and 131 in 6 number of seasonal centres, 1176 teachers have been provided in service training, 995 RETs have been regularized, 946 students have been assisted for providing aides and appliances under Children With Special Needs (CWSN). Panchayats have been involved in the different construction / IEC programme being implemented by the Education Department in the district.
