DDC Kishtwar inspects water filtration plants

KISHTWAR, Oct 7: District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar, Saugat Biswas along with ADDC Avatar Singh Chib today made a surprise visit to the water filtration plants that filter water for the Kishtwar town along.
DDC took stock of the functioning of the two plants having the capacity of 25,000 gallons per day and 20,000 gallons per day capacity with two reservoirs. During the detailed inspection, he issued directions to Executive Engineer PHE, Ravi Kant to ensure that absolutely clean water is supplied to the inhabitants. He noticed various lacunas in the running of the filtration plant.
He issued directions to the Executive Engineer to devise hourly duty charts for every day for ensuring time-bound action by the staff regarding administration of cleaning agents like alum and bleaching power in the plants. Directions were also given for the maintenance of issue and consumption registers for every raw material put to use in the plants. He also noticed that during non-availability of electricity the plant remains shut thereby compromising on the life of filtration beds.
Biswas issued directions to the Executive Engineer to get a generator installed at the plant to ensure that that the plant never shuts down. He directed Executive Engineer, AEE concerned and the Junior Engineers to ensure display of the hourly duty charts of the employees on notice boards in the plant.
DDC further instructed the in-charge of the plant to maintain standards of zero tolerance in operations of the filtration plants. He warned them that the health of public may not be put on risk.
The Executive Engineer briefed the visiting team that the older plant filtering 20000 gallons of water per day had been built in the 70’s and is beyond repair. On noticing the poor quality of efficiency of the plant, Biswas directed the Engineer for preparation of DPR for mordernisation of the plant, which will be soon submitted to the Administrative Department.
