JAMMU, Apr 28: Directorate of Distance & Online Education in Jammu University today organized a guest lecture on the theme “Role of Youth in Nation Building” for the students of DD&OE and the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, JU.
The guest speaker was Prof Sudarshan Iyengar, former, Vice-Chancellor, Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad. He threw light on the challenges faced by the youth of today and suggested ways to handle them.
Presenting his views from a ‘Gandhian’ perspective, he motivated the youth to stay committed towards the achievement of goals by pursuing values like truthfulness, non-violence, simplicity, fearlessness and tolerance.
Prof Iyengar spoke at length about harmony at self/individual and social levels, citing examples and narrating cases. He motivated the participants to identify local problems and work on their solutions with a ‘bottom-up’ approach. “Sustainable lifestyles lead to joy, happiness and well-being,” he added.
In her presiding remarks, Director, Directorate of Distance & Online Education, Prof Neelu Rohmetra talked about balancing the act of life and behaviour to combine pragmatism, and modernisation with the indigenous and cultural roots of our country. She encouraged to invoke this balance for a fruitful outcome in all walks of personal & professional life.
Prof Rohmetra, in her remarks, placed emphasis on the value of co-existence in a competitive perspective for the larger good. The session was coordinated by Dr Neelam Choudhary and, Prof Anju Thappa presented a vote of thanks. The event was attended enthusiastically by a large number of students, faculty and staff.
