DD & OE in JU organizes panel discussion to celebrate ‘Hindi Divas’

JAMMU, Sept 19: A panel discussion on the occasion of Hindi Diwas was organised on the topic “Hindi Bhasha ka Vikas – Chunautivan aur Samadhan” in the Directorate of Distance & Online Education (DD & OE), University of Jammu today.
The panelists were Prof P N Trisal, Prof Neelam Saraf, Prof Chanchal Dogra and Dr Purshotam Kumar. Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, DD & OE presided over the event.
Prof P N Trisal, retired Professor of Hindi Department in Jammu University, deliberated on linguistics and traced the origin and evolution of the Hindi language over the years in a lucid manner. He dwelt upon the contributions of noteworthy writers such as Bhartendu Harishchandra, Mahavir Prasad Dwivedi and Premchand.
Prof Neelam Saraf, retired Professor of Hindi, Jammu University, discussed the need to integrate Hindi language with livelihood and also stressed upon the adoption of the language in letter and spirit.
Prof Chanchal Dogra, Retired Principal, Higher Education, highlighted the role of teachers in propagating Hindi at the elementary level. She also recited self-composed poems written in Hindi.
Dr Purshotam Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Hindi, JU, spoke about the growing global presence of Hindi language. In order to overcome the challenges related to the development of the language, he suggested inter linkages of Hindi with information and broadcasting mediums and digital interventions.
In her presiding remarks, Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, DD & OE, emphasized that language gives an individual cultural identity and plays a vital role in the perception and personality development. All disciplines and subjects must be respected as these are important from their unique perspectives in the societal growth, she said, and added that efforts should be made to keep all regional languages and traditions alive for they constitute softer part of our cultural identities and well-being.
The programme was attended by the faculty, officers, non-teaching staff, research scholars and the students of the Directorate in large numbers. Prof Anju Sharma, Professor of Hindi in DD & OE, acted as the Moderator and the Coordinator of the Panel discussion. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr Neelam Choudhary, from the Directorate.
