DC Udhampur reviews PMGSY roads progress

UDHAMPUR, Feb 22: A review meeting was held at district headquaters by Dr. Piyush Singla, District Development Commissioner Udhampur in order to take stock of developmental activities being carried out in the district. Various sectors such as roads, water supply, irrigation, agriculture, horticulture, sericulture which has impact on rural economy was reviewed thread bare to assess the achievements made in this regard.
It came to fore that a significant improvement in the construction of PMGSY roads has been witnessed in the Udhampur in the last 18 months especially when district Udhampur is at No.1 in the UT with regard to the construction of PMGSY roads during the current year.
It is pertinent to mention that a total of 1875 kms road length has been achieved, connecting 370 habitations against the sanctioned length of 3075 Kms in the district so far. During current financial year, 257.26 Kms road length has been constructed which is highest in the UT. On financial front, expenditure to the tune of Rs 950 crore has been incurred from phase-I to XII. PMGSY road has remained a focus area especially in the last 18 months ever since UT regime took cover as it is reviewed regularly by the higher authorities.
Pertinently 36 forest clearances was given by FAC during the last year and many ROW/Contractors issues got resolved which provided impetus to the execution of PMGSY. Rural roads especially, PMGSY is the life line of rural economy as proper road connectivity provides enough scope for development of other amenities in the area, besides adding to the employment opportunities.
Many villages which were striving for decades together have been provided with road connectivity which is changing lives of people altogether. Few roads which includes Road from Thathi to Mananoo, Ritti Kuperla, Sira to Garhi, Tentha to Neeli Nallah, Mansar to Sorap and Moud to Pattian, have been completed in record time which were hanging since long.
Dr. Piyush Singla emphasized that the district administration is committed to increase ease of living for general masses, especially those living in far flung areas by providing basic amenities such as road connectivity, water supply, irrigation, power supply on one hand and creating environment which fetches enough employment avenues for the youth by focusing on primary sector of the economy through awareness, innovation and capacity building.
