DC takes stock of border residents’ grievances

KATHUA, Dec 3: District Development Commissioner Kathua, Om Prakash Bhagat today visited Hiranagar to listen to the grievances of border residents.
Deputy Inspector General – BSF Hira Lal, CO, 173 Bn BSF, SDM Hiranagar, PRI and locals were also present.
The border residents demanded early disbursement of compensation of land acquired for the construction of 135 Feet Composite Bund and Border Out Posts at Bobia and Londi. The locals also demanded demarcation of their land falling near international border. The demand for insurance for farmers’ working near border and special reservation for residents residing in zero to one km from IB fencing and pending crop compensation was also projected by the locals.
The DDC assured that the land compensation in lieu of construction of 135 Feet Composite Bund and Border Out Posts will be released well within procedural time. The locals agreed to the assurance given by DDC and asked the authorities to start the proposed construction works. He also assured the residents that all other demands will be taken up with concerned higher authorities.
The issue related to ease of movement for farmers having land near fencing was also discussed in detail with BSF and local stakeholders.
