Dr Itoo, while talking to Excelsior, said that there were complaints regarding the illegal constructions going on in Gulmarg and the administration has acted swiftly and has ordered an inquiry into the matter. “We have asked the CEO GDA for a detailed report and also the SDM Gulmarg has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the matter,” he said.
He added that the administration will look into all the cases and if there were any violations, they will act tough. “We will see into all these cases, those with permissions to carry out repairs will be allowed and if we find any violations, the administration will surely act tough,” he added.
While there are clear-cut directions from the High Court that no construction whatsoever will be allowed in Gulmarg, but these directions are being grossly violated by hoteliers.
The Deputy Commissioner, however, said that the GDA has been asked to provide case to case details of everything. “We have sought all the details, case to case details from the GDA; we will scrutinize all the cases and if we find any violation we will act tough,” he said.
In addition to it, the administration has also formed a senior level committee which will be headed by the ADC, SDM Gulmarg and members from the police. The committee has been tasked to monitor the works to be executed on the spots that have been given permission to carry out the repairs. “I have come to know about the violations that are being carried out under the garb of permissions for repairs, to nip that, we have formed a committee which will be regularly monitoring such spots and will make sure that such violations are not been carried out and the permissions given are restricted to only repairs,” he said.
While accepting the fact that the already-in-place mechanism to curb such violation needs to be strengthened, Dr Itoo said “it has come to fore that already in place mechanism needs to be made more coherent so that such violations do not take place,” he said.
