LEH, May 23: Deputy Commissioner Leh, Saugat Biswas today inspected the work on beautification projects in Leh Bazar and adjoining areas.
A amount of Rs 217.35 crore has been sanctioned under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for four major projects which include Augmentation & Re-Organization of Leh water supply scheme, sewerage system in Leh, solid waste management and improvement of roads in Leh.
Keeping in view the tourist season which is a major source of income for the populace of Leh, Biswas directed Superintending Engineer PWD S R Dogra to stop further earth excavation works in main market area. He also instructed PHE division to start excavation works outside Leh market area. For convenience of the public and tourists, DC directed R&B Division to erect sign boards mentioning about the ongoing works at all entry points in Leh town within three days.
While inspecting the ongoing works at main market and other streets of Leh Bazar, DC directed concerned engineers and contractors to execute whole project simultaneously by engaging extra labours and dividing works into smaller units with matching timelines for each units.
At main bazaar, DC directed Superintending Engineer PWD, Leh to start the tiling work immediately and also directed Administrator, Municipality Dr Zahida Bano to stop the private construction at Debitoo for two days so that ongoing construction of road could be completed in a one go. He further instructed her to remove construction materials from the road sides.
He also set deadlines for completion of different works.
