JAMMU, May 27: Taking serious note of inordinate delay in providing rental compensation to 35,000 people across the district, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh today fixed deadline for furnishing of requisite details so as to ensure online transfer of compensation to the accounts of the beneficiaries.
Chairing a meeting of all the Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars of the district, Deputy Commissioner noticed that an amount of Rs 27 crore, which was given by the Army authorities as compensation for the land requisitioned by them from the civilians, was pending for disbursal during the past 4-5 years.
Deputy Commissioner, while taking serious note of this, issued directions for transfer of such files from the erstwhile Tehsils to the newly created Tehsils before June 10. He directed the Tehsildars to collect account number of the beneficiaries from June 10 to June 30 and furnish the same to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
Thereafter, district administration will ensure transfer of compensation amount directly to the accounts of the beneficiaries so that they are not compelled to pay visits to the offices of Tehsildars or Deputy Commissioner. In this way, the scope of corruption and middle-men would get eliminated and around 35,000 people would be facilitated.
The Deputy Commissioner also issued directions for transfer of record from erstwhile Tehsils to the newly created Tehsils and asked the concerned officers to bring any difficulty in this regard to his notice for necessary corrective measures.
He also directed for immediate assessment of damages caused by recent heavy rainfall and said, “the estimates based on the joint inspection of Revenue and Agriculture Department authorities should be submitted within next 30 days so that Government is approached for release of compensation”.
