JAMMU, June 15: Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Simrandeep Singh today convened a meeting of the presidents of Meat and Broiler Associations of Jammu urging them to ensure adherence to quality and rate norms set up by the Government.
The meeting, held just days before Ramzan, assumes significance as the DC had been receiving complaints on daily basis from people regarding poor quality of meat being supplied in the market.
It was stressed that the sellers should sell only the JMC marked meat at the CAPD approved rates. “The shopkeepers will have to maintain hygiene and sanitary norms as per the Food Safety and Standards Act and the shops cannot be allowed to remain dirty and filthy as it has direct impact on the quality of the product being sold”, the DC said.
The Associations’ presidents were informed that the meeting should be seen as a notice given by the administration to follow quality norms failing which action as laid under Essential Commodities Act and Food Safety Act will be initiated.
The meeting was attended by the SDMs of South and North Jammu, AD CAPD, DD Legal Metrology and Food Safety officers. Two squads, one each for Jammu North and South, have been constituted to ensure compliance to the instructions given in the meeting.
The Presidents assured the DC of cooperation and support.
