Srinagar, Feb 5: The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar has barred the office bearers of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) from holding any public activities, including press conferences, in view of the upcoming elections of the Chamber.
The order was issued on the ground that such activities constitute a violation of the Model Code of Conduct related to the elections.
According to an order issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner dated February 2, 2023, “in view of the High Court Order dated 02.12.2022, regarding the conduct of Election to the Executive Committee of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCC&I) and in observance to the prevailing directions of the High Court viz-a-viz existing organizational structure of KCCI, no member of the KCCI shall represent himself/herself as the executive head or Office bearer of Chamber in any of the public or private activities or press conferences as the process of elections to the executive committee of KCCI is in progress and any such act will be in violation of the Model Code of Conduct as it would directly/indirectly influence the voters of the chamber in the upcoming polls.”
“Further, any member of KCCI if found violating Model Code of Conduct will be disqualified from participating in the elections and further action under rules will be initiated”, the order read.
The order was passed after former president of the Chamber held a press conference in the Chamber office two days ago.
