JAMMU, Feb 9: In court on its own motion Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding shortage of LPG, Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur has directed the respondents to file a status report with regard to the progress made in respect of allocation and commissioning of 56 LPG outlets.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, Division Bench observed, “a status report on behalf of the Oil Companies has been filed and the same indicates that in respect of 7 locations the letter of intent has already been issued and the same would be commissioned by the end of April 2018”, adding “as per the report there will be a re-draw in respect of14 locations and the same is likely to be completed by the end of February 2018”.
“Insofar as the direction with regard to the RGGLV locations is concerned, it appears that the respondents have discontinued the policy for selection after the new guidelines dated 14.07.2016 have come into force. All the left out locations under the scheme have been cancelled and it had indicated in previous order that the same could be re-considered”, the DB said.
“The status report also indicates that the oil industry has re-assessed the feasibility of the left out areas in Jammu and Kashmir. After the feasibility was checked under the unified guidelines for selection for LPG distributorship, 56 locations have been proposed”, the DB observed and sought fresh status report.
