JAMMU, Nov 15: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by All Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Teacher Federation seeking directions to State for maintaining proper student-teacher ratio in the schools, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Alok Aradhe has directed the respondents to file status report.
After hearing Advocate Pranav Kohli appearing for the PIL whereas AAG Ravinder Gupta, DB directed that status report shall include the tabulation of all essential facilities which the respondents have provided/proposed to provide/shall ensure provision thereof in schools at every level which would include primary, middle, secondary and the higher secondary schools.
“The status report shall be filed under the signatures of the Secretary to Government, Department of Education wherein the time line shall be given within which these facilities shall be ensured to the children of the State”, the DB further directed.
In the PIL, it has been submitted that transfers of the teachers are made so casually by the Head of the Department that in some schools number of teachers exceeds the children studying in schools. “On the other hand, the schools which are situated at a far off distance remained deprived of adequate number of teachers with the result the next generation remains deprived of its fundamental right, i.e. Right to Education merely because of corrupt and vested interest of some of the officers”, the PIL said.
