DB seeks to know steps taken by Govt

Filling of vacant post of Director Health Services

JAMMU, Sept 12: Division Bench of the State High Court comprising First Puisne Judge Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta has directed Senior AAG H A Siddiqui appearing for the Health and Medical Education Department to apprise the court with regard to the steps taken by the Government to fill the vacant post of Director Health Services, Jammu.
The direction was passed in a PIL filed by RTI activist Balwinder Singh highlighting shortage of doctors and paramedical staff in various health institutions of Jammu Province.
When the PIL came up for hearing, Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed appearing for the petitioner submitted that Health Department in Jammu Province is headless for the last two weeks and no effort is being made by the State Government to post a suitable incumbent.
He further submitted that issue of non-filling of the post of Director Health Services Jammu has also been highlighted both in electronic and print media but the State Government has remained unmoved as till date the prime slot of Director Health Services, Jammu is lying vacant.
Taking cognizance of the submissions made by Advocate S S Ahmed at the Bar and looking into the importance of the matter, DB directed Senior AAG H A Siddiqui to apprise the court with regard to the filling of the post of Director Health Services, Jammu and action taken by the State Government in this regard.
Advocate Ahmed further submitted that despite considerable time the State Government has failed to respond to the instant PIL highlighting the shortage of doctors and para-medical staff in various health institutions of Jammu province and this is evident from the response given by Directorate of Health Services Jammu to the RTI application moved by the writ petitioner.
At this stage, Senior AAG H A Siddiqui appearing for Health and Medical Education Department submitted that he has received a compilation from the Administrative Department and a proper reply will be filed very shortly to the PIL. The Senior AAG sought and was allowed two weeks time to file response to the instant PIL.
