JAMMU, June 7: Division Bench of State High Court comprising First Puisne Judge Justice Ramalingam Sudhakhar and Justice B S Walia today issued notices to Union Home Secretary, Vice-Chairman National Disaster Management Authority, Chief Secretary and Financial Commission Revenue of J&K in a PIL seeking directions for reviewing the preparedness of the J&K Government to tackle earthquake.
In the PIL filed by Kirpal Chand, it has been submitted that some days back a news appeared in the media that J&K has become more vulnerable to the earthquake of abnormal magnitude and may cause huge loss of life and property.
“Our State falls in the most vulnerable zones. The Kashmir valley falls more or less in Zone-V and Ladakh and Jammu regions fall in Zone-IV”, the petitioner said.
Besides issuing notices, the Division Bench also directed Registry to list the PIL in the week commencing from June 27, 2016.
