JAMMU, Apr 30: A Division Bench of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court hearing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding nomination of five MLAs today granted last and final opportunity of four weeks to the Government of India (GoI) to file reply in the matter and fixed July 25 as the date for final hearing.

The PIL filed by former MLC and chief spokesperson of JKPCC Ravinder Sharma challenging powers of the Lieutenant Governor to nominate five MLAs today came up for hearing before the Special Division Bench of Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Rajesh Sekhri.
The counsels for the petitioner D K Khajuria along with Shah Mohammed Chaudhary apprised the court that the respondent Government of India has not filed reply so far despite several opportunities and on last date the DB had ordered that the case shall be heard today in the absence of reply if not filed. They pleaded for closing right of respondents to file reply and fix the final date for hearing.
Upon this, ASGI Vishal Sharma submitted that the draft is ready and requested the court for last and final opportunity to file the reply in the matter. Upon this, the counsels for the petitioners also sought right to file rejoinder if so required.
The Division Bench then granted last and final opportunity of four weeks to the respondent Government of India to file reply to the petition and four weeks thereafter to the petitioner to file rejoinder to the same.
Senior AAGs Mohsin Qadri and Monika Kohli appeared for the respondent UT while as Advocate S S Ahmed for applicant.
