DB grants 3 weeks’ time for filing comprehensive report

JAMMU, Oct 20: In a Public Interest Litigation regarding conversion of land being used for growing world famous Basmati rice for residential and commercial infrastructure, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today granted three weeks time to the committee constituted by Deputy Commissioner Jammu for filing comprehensive report.
In the petition filed by practicing lawyer Ranjeet Singh Chib, the concern has been expressed over illegal conversion of world famous Basmati rice growing land into concrete jungle in R S Pura Sub Division.
“Thousands of kanals of land has been converted into banquet halls, residential colonies and business complex in last five years without obtaining permission as required under J&K Land Revenue Act”, the petition said.
After hearing Advocate SP Mengi for the PIL whereas AAG HA Siddqui for the State, DB observed, “the committee headed by SDM R S Pura constituted by Deputy Commissioner Jammu is directed to file comprehensive report within three weeks”. The DB directed Registry to list the PIL on November 10.
