JAMMU, Aug 7: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Parimoksh Seth seeking directions to the respondents to implement the provisions of the Prevention of Beggary Act, 1960 and Prevention of Beggary Rules in the State, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today expressed dissatisfaction over the compliance report.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Ankesh Chandel for the PIL whereas Senior Additional Advocate General Gagan Basotra with Government Advocate Meenakshi Bhutyal for the State, Division Bench observed, “the compliance report does not satisfactorily answer various issues raised in the directions as such fresh compliance report be filed within four weeks”.
The DB directed Finance Department to place adequate funds at the disposal of the Department of Home or the Director General of Police so that there is effective mechanism in place as per the provisions of the Beggary Act.
