JAMMU, Mar 29: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today issued directives in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting importance of preserving art, museum and archives in the State.
After hearing both the sides, DB directed Secretary, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society to remain present in the court on the next date of hearing and state as to what steps are to be taken to implement the conservation and restoration process insofar as Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex is concerned on the basis of the report submitted by the committee constituted by this court.
“Another aspect of the matter is the voluminous records that are kept stacked in High Court and also in District Courts. This causes serious accommodation problem both for judicial officers as well as staff. This issue has to be addressed by adopting new technology which will help institution to save a lot of space”, the DB said.
“As stated by the Senior AAG the Government has already started the process of digitization of records. The same has to be extended to court records considering the huge volume of paper involved in each case”, the DB said and directed the Government to depute the competent authority to sit with the committee constituted by this court for digitization of records at an early date.
The DB further directed that the steps taken and compliance in this regard shall be submitted on April 17.
