JAMMU, Jan 10: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan today passed certain directions in Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding difficulties of deaf and dumb population of Paralkote village in Poonch.
When the PIL based on the news-item published by EXCELSIOR came up for hearing, Division Bench directed Chairperson of District Legal Services Authority, Poonch to take further steps to ensure that all Government claims are made available to the area in question.
“Through a status report dated 27th of December, 2018 Dr Samer Mattoo, Director Health Services Jammu has informed that genetic analysis of samples obtained from the affected individuals and their families is under way and result shall be communicated within 3 to 4 months”, the DB observed and directed that the result of the analysis be placed before court before the next date of hearing.
DB further observed, “a status report dated 12th of December, 2018 filed by Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Secretary to Government, School Education Department, gives details of three deaf children who are of school going age in village Paralkote. The report confirms that these children are hearing impaired. This report informs that one teacher fully trained in Braille and sign language is posted in the school to help these students”.
DB directed Secretary to Government, School Education Department to ensure that the education of these children is fully facilitated. “Let the further report be filed before us on next date of hearing”, the DB added.
