JAMMU, Nov 12: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting the grave issue of conversion of Basmati rice growing land into colonies, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan today directed Secretary Revenue Department to file comprehensive report or appear in person.
“Earlier this court had directed State respondents to constitute a committee headed by an officer not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner to make survey of the area and submit report regarding actual area within Sub-Division R S Pura and converted into non-agricultural use”, the DB said, adding “there was direction for submission of report before next date of hearing but directions have not been complied with”.
DB granted last opportunity for submission of comprehensive report and made it clear that in case of non-compliance Secretary Revenue shall remain present in person on December 11.
