JAMMU, July 13: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding misappropriation of food grains meant for public, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Janak Raj Kotwal has granted four weeks time to State for filing a fresh status report indicating the steps taken by the Government to make recoveries and the action proposed to be taken against the erring officers/officials.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, Division Bench observed, “status/compliance report has been filed and on perusal of the same, it appears that the Government has issued circulars to the Directors to expedite the recovery process and furnish status/recoveries in regard to those who are responsible for the misappropriation/embezzlement/shortages of food grains”.
“The report, in fact, appears to be on the same lines as earlier compliance report filed on 15.12.2014. No concrete steps appear to have been taken by the official respondents with a view to inspire confidence of this court that the department is taking serious steps for effecting the recoveries or initiating action against those who are alleged to have involvement in malpractice”, the DB said.
On the prayer of AAG Seema Shekhar, DB granted four weeks time to State for filing a fresh status report indicating the concrete steps taken by the Government to make recoveries and the action proposed to be taken against the erring officers/officials.
