2G services restored in Jammu distt

JAMMU, Feb 19: Authorities today lifted day curfew in entire Jammu City and proposed to keep the City free of curfew tomorrow as well if situation overnight remained normal while internet services with 2G speed were restored in Jammu district tonight.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Jammu, Ramesh Kumar and SSP Jammu Tejinder Singh told the Excelsior that situation during the day was completely peaceful when curfew was relaxed from 8 am to 6.30 pm.
However, curfew was re-imposed in the City after 6.30 pm and night curfew remained in-force as a precautionary measure, they said.
Romesh Kumar said curfew was initially relaxed in the entire City from 8 am to 11 pm and then further extended after every two hours till 6.30 pm. There was no day curfew in the City, which remained normal during the relaxation period.
In view of normalcy, authorities have decided to lift curfew tomorrow from 7 am to 7 pm. However, the relaxation would be given only if situation overnight remained peaceful and no untoward incident was reported.

In view of relaxation in curfew on hourly basis, majority of Government offices including the Civil Secretariat were virtually closed. Only few offices functioned with very thin attendance as commercial traffic was off the roads. Schools and Colleges in entire Jammu district were closed.
“Curfew relaxation period was incident free,” Tejender Singh said.
Life returned to normal in the City with shops and all other business establishments opening and private traffic plying normally. However, buses, matadors and other commercial traffic remained off the roads.
According to sources, commercial transport would operate tomorrow on National Highways, other major roads as well as Jammu City.
Sources said para-military forces and police would remain deployed in all vulnerable areas of the City in strength for some more days.
While 2G mobile services had been restored in nine districts of Jammu region last night, they were restored in Jammu district tonight. Decision on restoration of 4G services on mobile telephones would be taken later.
With rumours galore, police administration has decided to identify the rumour mongers and take action against them.
People heaved a sigh of relief following lifting of day curfew today as they were able to purchase essential commodities like LPG, petrol, vegetables, ration items etc.
Curfew was imposed in entire Jammu City on Friday last following incidents of arson in some parts of the City during Jammu bandh in protest against martyrdom of 44 CRPF jawans in a terror attack at Pulwama.
