JAMMU, Nov 4: After six months working in Srinagar, the Civil Secretariat, the seat of the Government, would start functioning from Jammu, the winter capital of the State, from tomorrow.
On re-opening of the Secretariat here, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will inspect the guard of honour and take salute at about 9 am. He would also inspect some offices.
Omar would also inter-act with media after taking salute and inspecting offices.
Besides the Civil Secretariat, the offices of Raj Bhawan, State Legislature and Police Headquarters, which were moved from Srinagar to Jammu, will also reopen in the winter capital tomorrow.
Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders around the Civil Secretariat in view of the reports that several organisations planned to hold anti-Government protest rallies in the city.
Police have made elaborate security arrangements for smooth functioning of the Civil Secretariat and other Darbar Move offices here for next six months.
The practice of ‘darbar’ (capital) move was started by Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1872 to escape extreme weather conditions of Jammu during summer and harsh winter of Srinagar. The offices had closed in Srinagar on October 26.
Over 5,300 employees and truck loads of records were shifted from Srinagar to Jammu. Over Rs 10 crore were spent for the shifting.
