SRINAGAR, June 20: Darbar Move Employees Federation (DMEF) today strongly condemned the sexual harassment of woman employee of Transport Department by an Inspector of the Regional Transport Office Jammu and demanded registration of fresh FIR against the accused.
An extra ordinary meeting called by the Federation under the chairmanship of its State president Ovais Wani, sought immediate suspension of the MVD Inspector so that he may not be able to influence the investigations.
Demanding strict punishment to the accused MVD inspector, Chander Mohan Sharma, a blue eyed boy of a senior Transport officer, the Federation termed the formation of committees by the Transport Commissioner as mere eyewash to shield the culprit. They alleged that Transport Department has violated Section 4, Section 12 and other related Sections of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, prohibition and redressal) Act 2013.
The Jammu and Kashmir Criminal Laws (Sexual offences) Amendment) Bill 2018 which was introduced by Governor Satya Pal Malik and Chief Justice Gita Mittal to safeguard the women folk who work in Government/ Private offices has not been invoked in this case. The FIR registered against the MVD Inspector clearly reflects the intention of the departmental higher-ups as relevant Sections have not been included in the FIR against the accused by Jammu police.
The complaint against the Inspector has been widely carried by the media, but still no action is being taken against the accused.
The Federation strongly condemned the approach adopted by the Transport Commissioner in this sexual harassment case.
The Federation sought immediate intervention of Governor, Chief Justice of J&K, Chief Secretary, Advisors and Principal Secretary Transport Department, Dr Asgar Samoon. The Federation decided to hit the streets if action is not taken within a week and will close down the direction offices.
Senior vice president Khurshed Ahmed, vice presidents- Abdul Rashid Hafiz and Ghulam Rasool Paul, general secretary Tufail Ahmed, chief organizer Tanveer Ahmed, secretary Nazir Ahmed Khan, treasurer Nazir Ahmed Bhat, chief spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Lone, spokesperson Javid Intikhab, chief coordinator Irshad -ul- Hamid, State president Special NPS Cell -DEMF Mohd Amin Kilo, Senior Media in charge Sameer Ajaz Mughal and other Senior Trade Union Leaders were among others present in the meeting.
