RAMBAN/ SAMBA, Jan 19: Hundreds of workers from Democratic Azad Party on Thursday held the peaceful demonstration against the land eviction order by government urging authorities to reconsider its decision.
The leaders and workers marched to DC office and handed over the memorandum to DC Ramban in presence of general secretary RS Chib, GM Saroori vice president, Jugal Kishore Sharma Provincial president, Aslam Goni Working Committee Member, Salman Nizami chief spokesperson, Arun Raju secretary, Ch Farooq Provincial secretary, Shahrukh Bhatti Counselor, Mohd Amin Bhatt, Farooq Katoch and others.
Chib said that the order is hurting thousands of families and will render them homeless in these harsh winters. “Our protest will continue as long as the order is not revoked. The aim of laws is the welfare of common people but in our UT laws are framed to dis-empower people,” he said.
DAP leader said the elections shall be immediately held so that the Jammu Kashmir will have an elected government. “How long they will leave us on the mercy of bureacrates. It has been now more than five years we are without a government,” he added.
GM Saroori said that the land under Roshni Scheme was provided to poor and needy people after the Assembly approved the legislation. It was a pro poor initiative by the then Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and the present regime is undoing it.
“Our voices will be for people and we will not sit aside and let the people suffer. We stand united against this anti people land eviction order,” he added.
Among others who participated in the protest were Munner Bhatt, Dr Asif Khanday, Gulzar Wani, Farooq Ganai, Alyas Wani, Sheikh Shabir, Asghar Rasool, Girdari Lal Bahu, Iqbal Katoch, Rehmatullah Runiyal and others.
Similar protest march was held at Samba town today under the leadership of senior party leader Vinod Mishra. Besides Mishra several other leaders addressed the gathering and criticized LG’s administration.
Prominent among those who participated and spoke included former minister Ch Garu Ram, former Dy Speaker Ghulam Hyder Malik and Maheshwar Singh.
