Srinagar, July 12: His Holiness Dalai Lama arrived in Srinagar for a week-long visit to Kashmir valley after a gap of 24 years.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Tourism Minister Ngawang Rigzin Jora received him at Srinagar International Airport this morning. The Chief Minister welcomed the religious leader and conveyed his good wishes to him. He also enquired about the health of Dalai Lama. Dalai Lama prayed for peace, prosperity and development of the State.
After his arrival, Dalai Lama straightway went to Nehru Guest house where he is staying as a State guest.
Members of the Tibetan Muslim community, members of the Ladakhi community in Srinagar as well as Tibetans received him on his arrival at the Nehru guest house.
The management committee of the Tibetan public school and heads of the Ladakhi community expressed their greetings to him inside the guest house.
Dalia Lama will visit the Tibetan public school in Srinagar’s down town area and address the Tibetan Muslim community of Srinagar on July 14.
Dalia Lama first met with the Tibetan Muslim community in 1975 at the old Tibetan Muslim settlement at Idgah, Srinagar. He met the Tibetan Muslim community again in 1988 and during militancy he didn’t come to Kashmir. This is his first visit to Kashmir valley since 1988.
