Dalai Lama expresses concern over rising corruption

LEH, Aug 3: Buddhist spiritual leader, Dalai Lama today expressed serious concern over the increasing corruption in India and equated the same with violence.
Addressing a function organized by Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council under the chairmanship of CEC Rigzin Spalbar here today, Dalai Lama said, “rising corruption is playing key role in spoiling of country’s age old tradition of non-violence”, adding “it is due to the corruption that there is huge gap between rich and poor and this ultimately results into violence”.
He hoped that LAHDC would not allow corruption to make inroads in the district and ensure transparency in all the works.
Laying stress on preservation of culture, the Buddhist spiritual leader said, “folk dances are just a part of culture but the real meaning of our culture is college of mind, heart and wisdom”, adding “it is the wisdom that helps to see things in holistic way and with wider perspective making our approach more realistic”.
Calling Dalai Lama the Masiha of peace and envoy of love and compassion with great soul, CEC expressed heartfelt gratitude to him for blessing the people of Ladakh time and again. He shared in brief every thing shaping up in Leh and policy reform measures and best practices the Hill Council has been endeavoring to pursue to ensure that the development in this part of the Western Himalaya delivers lasting results for its people.
“The agonizing days following the flash flood of August 2010 are over. The first and foremost responsibility in the very first year of coming to power of the present Council was to provide a healing touch to the effected people rather than focusing attention on other policy measures”, he said.
Referring to the Ladakh 2025 Vision Documents and its goals, CEC said that LAHDC has conducted a massive micro level planning exercise of all the villages followed by re-strategizing and redirecting efforts on the basis of the outcome of this action with cutting edge planning concept integrated in the prospective 12th five Year Plan of Leh district notwithstanding the fact that there are numerous challenges and limitations in the journey ahead.
He said that unveiling of draft perspective plan of 12th five year plan of Leh at the hands of Dalai Lama will mark a major milestone and add a new chapter in the history of Leh.
On the occasion, a program highlighting the cultural significance of Ladakh was presented in the honor of the Dalai Lama.
The Deputy Commissioner, Tsering Angchok delivered vote of thanks.
Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin, all Rinpoches of Ladakh headed by Galdan Thi Rinpochey, Executive Councilors, ex. Union Minister, P Namgyal, ex MP Thupstan Chhewang, MLC Norbu Gyalson, ex-CEC, Tsering Dorjey, Councilors of LAHDC, heads and representatives of all religious, social and political organizations and district officers were present on the occasion.
