Srinagar, Feb 23: Seeking caderization of medical officers, the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that it would end stagnation which has led to disinterest among hundreds of medical officers of the Health Department.
The DAK president, Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan in a statement said that non-caderization has blocked career opportunities of medical officers who are frustrated and disappointed with this victimization.
“They are recruited by Public Service Commission and are never promoted to next level or rank and they retire with the same position. Despite, many representations were made by DAK, but to our disappointment, issue has been neglected by successive regimens,” Dr Nisar said.
Medical officer plays a pivotal role in primary health care which has not been a success in Kashmir as policy makers have completely ignored it, he said.
He said lack of facilities, no trained staff and lack of co-ordination in primary health are responsible for poor health outcomes. “The deliveries in peripheries are conducted in extreme unhygienic conditions by untrained and unskilled persons which is responsible for high maternal and infant mortality,” the DAK president said.
