Cycle of fatal road accidents must end: Suri

JAMMU, Nov 13: Expressing shock over the death of 16 persons of a single village in a tragic road accident near Khaleni on Batote-Kishtwar Road, BJP State Executive Member, Raman Suri today said that this cycle of fatal accidents that has consumed hundreds of precious lives on killer roads of J&K must end.
In a handout Suri said, though the Government extends every possible social, medical and financial help to the injured and to the kin of deceased, yet, no amount of money can compensate a lost life.
He urged the Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu to direct authorities including PWD, Traffic, Regional Transport Officers and Health and Medical Education Department to carry out a safety audit of J&K roads and to check their preparedness to give people safe roads to travel.
Suri said, lack of coordination between these departments encourage over loading, rash driving, driving without licenses, poor fitness of vehicles, improper roads with poor engineering designs, ill preparedness on part of rescuers, untimely arrival of medical aid in case of mishap and lack of trauma centers on highways.
Suri urged the Lieutenant Governor to personally assess flaws and casual approach adopted by various departments in playing with precious lives of people. He said, this is criminal negligence of not providing safe roads and not checking traffic etc should be fixed.
