JAMMU, Mar 15: Central Water Commission (CWC), Jammu under the auspices of Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (MOWR, RD & GR) today organized a training programme on Water Conservation and Management Issues under Jal Kranti Abhiyan in the Multipurpose Hall of Institution of Engineers, Channi Himmat, Jammu.
Maneesha Devi Sharma, Director, Command Area Development (CAD), Government of Jammu and Kashmir, graced the occasion as chief guest while Santosh Kumar Tripathi, Director, Engineering Geology, Geological Survey of India, was guest of honor.
SK Shukla, Director M&A, CWC Jammu and other officers from Central and State Government along with about 30 trainees from NGO, various State Government departments and farmers from villages attended the workshop.
While inaugurating the training programme, the chief guest emphasized on judicious use of water not only by farmers but at our homes also, so that wastage of water could be avoided. She also highlighted the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions for water management. She also suggested that the farmers of different states should interact in these kinds of workshops so that they can exchange the ideas on Irrigation and Agriculture with each other.
Santosh Tripathi while addressing the gathering stressed upon the various aspects of the conservation of water, judicious use of water to save it for future use. Ha also emphasized on participation of farmers in this programme fully to avail full benefits of the programme.
The training was conducted in three sessions wherein Samir Kumar Shukla, Director, M&A Directorate, CWC, Jammu, Sunil Bhasin, TO to CE, I&FC/PHE, Government of J&K, AP Kandiyal, Deputy Director, CWC, Aneesh Kumar, Scientist, CGWB and Rakesh Gupta, Assistant Director, CWC also gave presentations highlighting the objectives of Jal Kranti Abhiyan, Surface Water Utilization, Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM), important activities by MoWR, RD & GR and Water Conservation, respectively.
