JAMMU, May 23: A high empowered committee for the selection of first ever Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) was meeting in Srinagar, the summer capital of the State, on May 28 at 7 pm.
The committee, which would select the CVC and two Vigilance Commissioners, comprised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar and Leader of single largest opposition party, Mehbooba Mufti.
The Co-ordination Committee of National Conference-Congress had earlier cleared four names for appointments as the CVC. They were Kuldeep Khoda, DGP, who was due to retire on May 31, Dr Ashok Bhan, who had retired as DGP and had also served as Vigilance Commissioner, R K Jerath, who retired on April 30 as Financial Commissioner (Revenue) and M S Khan, who had completed his services and retired as Commissioner/Secretary (General Administration Department) on January 31.
The high level panel would elect first ever CVC of Jammu and Kashmir. The panel could also appoint two Vigilance Commissioners.
